2000 participants, 1 winner!
This year’s Imagine Sweden (Musik Direkt) National Finals took place in the beautiful concert hall in Västerås between 9th and 11th May. Live preselections were organized in 19 counties in Sweden which involved some 2000 young musicians, and 66 young musicians of a very high level of competed for the title in the final. The gala also had guest performances from Anna Rune (Imagine Belgium national finalist in 2012), No Resistance (Imagine Norway aka UKM winners), Gustaf Modin (last year’s winner and the Imagine Festival international final winner in 2012) and Abalone Dots (Musik Direkt winners in 2003).
After an intense final, accordion player Daniel Eliasson took home the grand prize, and the right to represent his country in the international finals in Kristiansand. Daniel began playing at age four after his family gave him a record with accordion music. At the age of nine he moved to Moscow to study music theory and accordion full time, and since then he has won a number of awards and fellowships around the world.
